I think you failed to understand Peter Singer and speciesism. It's not about equal treatment but about equal consideration of interests.

For example, the interest of a human being not to lose a leg is larger than the interest of a mouse not to lose a leg. But the interest of a human being to eat a tasty chicken instead of something vegan is (probably) smaller than the interest of the chicken not to suffer all its life in factory farming.
